Alex Anwandter - Latinoamericana

Score: 7.8

The latest release from the Chilean artist Alex Anwandter is perfectly captured in its album cover: there's a direct address at the listener, making him/her wake up at the injustices of the world, but there's also a direct, almost visceral vulnerability he's more than able to express throughout the songs where he tells that he's been afraid and ashamed and diminished, but ready to take the fight back and move one. Besides, the jungly, greeny background serves to symbolise the tropical approach to his 80's synth-pop and delluted R&B, elements that help build up the fluid and cohesive aesthetics of the record. Latinoamericana is indeed protest, consciousness and self-value, but also fun and joy.
