The latest album from Chilean/Mexican artist Mon Laferte seems like a final discovery of identity. Paired down with The Mars Volta auteur Omar Rodríguez López, the singer melts her ambitious take on retro-Latinamerican sounds like salsa, cumbia, bolero or mambo with suffered vocals and lyrics, exploding little details and concocting a release that's enough coherent and engaging to serve as both ambient and dancefloor-ready music. Most of the tracks reveal themselves with each new listen, but it's its undeniable tenderness and flavour what makes Norma revealing and enthralling.
