The 1975 - A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships

Score: 8.0

The third album from the Manchester indie-pop-turned-mainstream-pop band The 1975 is their most adventurous and ecclectic yet. The juxtaposition between upbeat, sugary melodies and dark, tumultuous lyrics revolving around drugs, toxic love and social issues is already a classic in the band's ethos, but on A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships they seem to edge at maximalism, tackling down elements of Bon Iver, Radiohead and current trends like sunny pop and SoundCloud rap to emerge as modern revisionists of life and culture. Most of the tracks feel fresh, sincere and hopeful, and most of the length the album evokes is plagued with enormous heart, love, gut and (why not) muscle.

Tracks I like the most: Give Yourself A Try, TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME, How To Draw/Petrichor, The Man Who Married A Robot/Love Theme, It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)
Tracks I like the least: I Like America & America Likes Me
