The first full-length release by collaborative group Bliss Signal (James Kelly from Altar of Plagues and WIFE, and Mumdance) is a crossover between atmospheric, nocturnal dark ambient and blackgaze, and cerebral, fading techno. There are some standout tracks here and there, where the schizophrenic beats and the cavernous, ominous walls of sound linger on after they disappear; others, though, lack the necessary force to pull the record into a continuous momentum. As an experiment, Bliss Signal more than achieves its goal. As a cohesive album, not so sure about it.
