Kero Kero Bonito - Time 'n' Place

After a louded debut album, British-Japanese electropop trio Kero Kero Bonito comes back with a full twist on their sound, favouring harshly melancholic, bittersweet lyrics, acute and cavernous instrumentation, and cerebral interplays with distorsion and noise. The record is a continuous experimentation on the limits of the group and, while some tracks stand out and show true potential and capacity in them, some others lack the instant spark that made them so appealing in the first place. A change of pace this radical should always be celebrated, but one cannot help but wondering why they changed that if they were functioning just so well in the past.
