IDLES - Joy As An Act Of Resistance

Score: 9.0

After an excellent debut album last year, we thought it would be really tough for the British band Idles to live up to their standard of witty, conscious and cerebrally angry take on post-punk. Somehow, though, their sophomore record extends and even betters their already established formula, with gut-punching lyrics and instrumental overtakes that tackle diversity, socio-political injustices, race, toxic masculinity, loss and communion in wholly arresting, effervescent ways. From its title to its compositions and sublime delivery, Joy As An Act Of Resistance presents itself as the most urgent, mandatory and victorious rock record of the year, and cements the band's reputation as a leading voice in modern music.
