Niño De Elche - Antología Del Cante Flamenco Heterodoxo

Score: 8.7

This new compilation from Spanish cantaor and avant-garde artist Niño De Elche lives up to its title and description: almost ancient chants from Spain's previous centuries' famous and forgotten singer-songwriters illuminate the almost sadistically weird record. But there's the tremendous knack for the disturbingly jaw-dropping that makes everything work out, as well as the millimetric attention to detail, that helps the album sound purely flamenco-esque all throughout. Maybe the artist is not the first one trying to concoct an anthology of this kind, but it's certain that he can stand along the best viewpoints into how and why flamenco music sounded like it sounded in the past, sounds in the present and can probably sound in the future.

Tracks I like the most: Soledades De La Pereza, El Prefacio A La Malagueña De El Mellizo, Coplas Mecánicas De Juan De Mairena, Polo De Manuel De Falla, Recitando De Eugenio Noel, Fandangos Y Canciones Del Exilio, Tanguillos De Cádiz, Mensaje Diafónico De Val Del Omar, Rumba Y Bomba De Dolores Flores, Canción De Cuna De Crumb (El Niño Busca Su Voz), Lekeitio N° 5 - En Directo
Tracks I like the least: Pregón, Lema Y Consigna De Nono
