Shamir - Resolution

Score: 7.1

Though it's still a pity that American artist Shamir has decided to leave the electro-funk/disco music that made him so popular and appealing in the first place behind in order to favour a more intimate, lo-fi and bedroom rock take, Resolution feels much more realised, well-produced and executed than its predecessors on the matter (the tasteless Hope and the forgettable Revelations). In these eight heavy-loaded and slow-paced guitar-driven ballads, the singer continues to explore his own messed psyche, his projections to the future and his relationships with the world in curiously satisfactory ways, blending styles and indulging in self-imposed voids of doom and reveb. There's political, racial and sentimental anger throughout the record too; and while the album is not the best example to show Shamir's true potential, it does seem like the starting point to the beginning of a successful era of self-discovery and "resolution".
