Noname - Room 25

Score: 8.4

After an acclaimed mixtape, LA-based rapper Noname sets the bar for introspective, marvelous conscious/jazz rap standards with her debut album, Room 25. Though heavily inward-looking, the artist feels renovated and opened to the world in front of her, a world where she's taking the lead, having fun and dominating each and every single corner. The guest artists do help, but it's Noname herself the main gravitational force throughout the project to maintain the suspense, the liberation and the tender embraces now and then. Packed with as much meaning and sentiment than before, she's wholly brand new but still the same; a gift so valuable and hard to achieve that only a couple others can keep.
